Hey folks, welcome to another one of my attempt to catch up with the old shows. First of all, my thanks to all of you readers who gave a kind support for the 2010 Summary. Truth be told I a bit hesitate to start it over again, given I fully aware of how massive and time consuming this project going to be. But damn, I guess I’ll try my hardest until real life commitment has an upper hand, right? I won’t rush anything this time, so it’ll end when it ends. Unlike last year where I wrote it in one supermassive black hole post, this time it’s my intention to semi-review shows every few weeks, so you guys can stay up to date to the progression of this summary. For future reference, you can look for this little project under the “2011 Anime Retrospective” tab.
To keep things short, here’s what I’m about to do:

Next post, I will give some quick comments for shows from the Qualifying List based on their first few episodes and form the full watchlist for the 2011 Summary.
And it’d be more fun if you guys can jump in as well. For example, if you find any show that I’ve missed out, shoot up in the comment below, I can give it at least a check-up, because put it simply, I don’t want to miss a thing.
Bye for now, see you in a few days for the next post.
Nichijou is a really underrated comedy, and am glad you are going to give it a watch. Fate, Gate, HXH and Madoka are great titles, and I look forward to reading your thoughts on them.
For now, take your time. No need to rush.
Ah 2011, the year of many things. Including two winters.
It was a harsh year. HunterXHunter, with its 146 episodes, is the second winter. Thats gonna be fun.
As long as Usagi Drop gets the top spot, we can still be friends. :^)
I don’t really watch anime much anymore, but as someone that still follows this blog I think this would be the best 10 out of your contenders:
Yumekui Merry
C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control
Deadman Wonderland
Moshidora
Dantalian no Shaka
Kamisama no Memochou
Blood-C
Kamisama Dolls
Un-Go
Ben-To
Looking at 2011 for overall quality, these were probably the best from start to finish. If you want to save time/maximize this season that is what I would recommend.
The only other notable ones would be :
Fractacle (good art, but kind of a bummer for noitamina)
Phi Brain (standard shounen, has it’s up and downs)
Guilty Crown (utter trainwreck, makes code geass look perfect; was popular and the animation was great)
Tamayura (decent slice of life, but nothing special)
Everything else honestly is forgettable and is the same old rehashed harem/action/comedy/cute girls doing cute things/supernatural/yaoi cliches. You’ll miss nothing you haven’t already seen skipping the others.
Anyway hope this helps, peace!
Thanks for the recommendation. Except from Bento in which I dropped fast (ehh, not for me), all those shows you mentioned made their way further down before I have to cut some of them for the final watch list.
We’re pretty on the same page regarding the quality of those shows in general it seems, although I admit I have some of my own bias when picking these shows. So would you.
Hunter x Hunter is probably one of the greatest anime I’ve watched. Anohana is quite melodramatic.Steins Gate is quite good especially after episode 10, Mirai Nikki I sort of gave up midway due to the rather absurd character interactions, and its’ ‘dead’ world.Level E’s humor sort of fizzles out after the first 3 episodes.
2011 had so many great anime, probably being the best year for anime in the past 11 years, if not all of history. Hourou Musuko, Steins Gate, Tiger & Bunny, Usagai Drop, and Madoka were my favorites. Un-Go, No. 6, Mawaru Penguindrum, Level E, and Chihayafuru were also pretty good.
