11Eyes Review – 80/100

The past autumn season may not have been the best, but did stand out in one thing: more than one actually good hentai game adaptations. 11Eyes at first looks like your average harem, with cheesy character-designs, stupid characters, and an incredibly lazy execution. And yet it already proves you wrong during the very first climax.

11Eyes is finally another one of those eroge adaptations that has a good story that’s fleshed out throughout the entire series, rather than the final two episodes, it has well fleshed out and developed characters, and a pretty solid direction during the climaxesEven the smaller side-characters aren’t cardboard cut-outs for once, but actual characters with their own issues, strengths and weaknesses. It’s a really great transition from its original source material and how notorious these have become over the past decade.

11Eyes is not without its problems, though. The voice acting is a bit unrealistic at times, especially the male lead suffers from this. And while the direction is impressive, the animation and visuals themselves don’t often stand out. Also, as the story goes on, a really weird love triangle pops up that is forced, doesn’t make any sense and is way too underdeveloped and forced for its role in the storyline. The big reason for that is the female lead, Yuka, who seems to believe that whenever a guy touches another girl he’s immediately in love with her.

So yeah, ultimately it’s the side-cast that brightens up this series, but they do so pretty well. 11Eyes is in no way the perfect series, but it’s solid entertainment and comes with a pretty good story and characters that will keep you interested. As for the ending… it has some pretty creative elements. I’d label it as a pretty good ending if it wasn’t for the blatant Deus ex Machina at the end.

(In case you’re wondering what happened to the rating categories I usually put here, I’m experimenting whether I should not show them alltogether. Or is there something else that I could put here?)

  1. I really like your current score system, as the categories you use, are very helpful. I always look at the story score, before i look at the others. Some might look at different ones.

Please keep it the way it is 🙂

  2. I think that your previous rating system is better. It allows viewer to find what’s so good about anime A,and what’s bad about anime B.Without it,your review will be biased, and we’ll don’t know how an anime got an XX score

    So,in conclusion,please don’t change your rating system.

  3. I don’t usually follow shows like this, and I even skipped a couple of the episodes and just read summaries. I don’t think anything of value was lost.

I think it was a lazily-written story, which I assume stems from its origins. It wants to be, and tries to be different, and this is a goal that I appreciate. I went in expecting another Chaos;Head and came out thinking more of Peter Jackson’s Braindead. However it attempts to deceive the viewer with a set of tropes, that after the perspective change, don’t make any sense except as the mechanisms of the deceit. They are subverted by the writer with the narrative equivalent of “lol no.” If M. Night Shyamalan made eroge adaptations, he would have made this one.

However, like a terrible horror movie the crap-factor of this show makes it pretty funny. The utter futility of the sometimes-perverted powerups is gold. The whimsy of Yuka’s insanity makes all of those crazy female Japanese fans on the Internet seem downright pleasant. When you think of how much of your time was wasted by two groups of idiots doing everything wrong, Lelouche suddenly seems a lot smarter in retrospect, and might even have given up his crown for King of the Idiots, if 11eyes had four times as many episodes to earn it. Whereas I usually just sigh at the laziness of such service, even the unnecessary panty-shots were funny.

  4. I agree; I like how you have been rating your series. It’s nice to have a quick rundown on what each show has strength in, such as characters, story-telling, etc.

  5. rather than using number you should use word instead, a quick view of thing

    example
    Storytelling – is it good
    how the pace
    what kind of show this

    Characters – how character development
    – is character likable
    – is character believable

  6. I could kind of understand Yuka, I mean Kakeru was licking the red head girl’s wrist, she was falling on him topless.. At least I think that was what she saw? Still, I can agree that the way she reacted was annoying. I was waiting for her to jump into the crazy but she stayed on the fence pretty much, if not just, the whole time. At the end she only really got more stupid…

  7. one of the weirdest animes ive ever seen the plot is hard to follow and they don’t form the characters very well they just give backround stories
